Before you start

Test touch controls, subtitles and external playback separately. Features available on an iPhone may differ from an Apple TV version of the same app.

A practical way through

  1. Search the App Store on the actual Apple device. Check whether the listing supports iPhone, iPad or Apple TV, because these are separate compatibility choices.
  2. Use the device’s official app store or the developer’s documented download source. Check the developer name so you do not install a lookalike.
  3. Compare remote navigation, EPG, favourites, subtitle controls and account input. A feature list is less useful than a short trial on your exact device.
  4. For AirPlay, confirm a compatible receiver and enable its AirPlay setting. Use the app’s AirPlay control if available; some apps do not support it.
  5. Request a trial using the device and connection you actually plan to use. Check your must-watch content before choosing a longer term.

Check the result

Test one live channel and, where available, one on-demand item. Check picture, sound and navigation. If the result is different from what you expected, note the exact error before changing another setting.
