Compare players for Android TV

Before you start

A comfortable EPG, reliable remote control and subtitle support can matter more than the longest feature list. Check which features require payment.

A practical way through

1. Open your device’s settings and record its exact model, operating system and software version. A familiar brand name alone is not enough to choose an app.
2. On Google TV, search in the Apps area. On Android TV, use Google Play. Install a player only when its listing supports your device.
3. Compare remote navigation, EPG, favourites, subtitle controls and account input. A feature list is less useful than a short trial on your exact device.
4. Check whether the player needs a separate licence. Paying for an app does not buy a content subscription, and buying a subscription does not automatically unlock every app.
5. Request a trial using the device and connection you actually plan to use. Check your must-watch content before choosing a longer term.

Check the result

Test one live channel and, where available, one on-demand item. Check picture, sound and navigation. If the result is different from what you expected, note the exact error before changing another setting.
